Tall Timbers in Smithton is a free camping oasis! Situated within the grounds of the hotel on the edge of a creek is a huge grassed area where self contained camping is permitted for up to 72hours. We used this camp as a base to explore Stanley to the East and The Tarkine to the West. The town of Smithton has all the facilities needed for the RV traveller including water and a dump point. I must put in a plug for Tarkine Fresh Oysters available in town, they were to die for! Resident ducks live in the area, and we were even lucky enough to spot a platypus in the creek!
