Day 4: Broken Hill to Burra SA
We woke this morning to a cool southerly. It was very windy and quite cold. We were hopeful that the change in weather could be a good thing for our car. Burra is 350km from Broken Hill, we werent confident we would get that far, but we were hopeful.
The drive went well. No fault codes at all! The cool change had made a difference.
We made it to Burra early afternoon and could have driven further but felt the need to stay in this town. Burra is a historic town full of beautifully restored old buildings. Copper mining was booming here back in the 1800’s and the wealth of the time is still evident today. We were too late in the day to access the museums. They are staffed by volunteers and close by 2pm, but we drove around town, went to several lookouts and wandered the ruins. We would love to stay longer, but the long weekend is over tomorrow, so we must find a Ford dealer and get some answers about the car.
We have free camped behind the historic Bon Accord Hotel. Unpowered camping is free if you spend dolllars in the pub. We are always happy to oblige with those rules!
We enjoyed a pub meal and drinks tonight. We also enjoyed some unique entertainment. Who would have thought a pianola would be playing the classic, Bohemian Rhapsody? I must admit, it was very special to watch and was a perfect end to an enjoyable day.
