Camooweal Billabong is a huge free camp on Lake Francis, located in Camooweal, Queensland. There are no facilities. There is plenty of space for a hundred or so caravans. Bird watching is prolific with plenty of Brolgas and other water birds to enjoy. Campfires are allowed. This is a great stop over after Mount Isa on the way to NT.

    this camp is/has been closed down by the local Council 🙁

      Closed temporarily for the 2023 season only. Hopefully it is not extended indefinitely.

    Here now at Camooweal billabong fences are being erected soon to be cut-off from public. Such a shame.

      We are of the understanding that it was to be closed for the entire 2023 season, and reviewed for 2024. Sadly, I would not expect it to be open for you in October.
